Introduction to Courses

Since its creation 20 years ago, the Alliance Française de Macao has taught 10 000 students. The Alliance Française welcomes more than 500 students per year.

Each year four sessions of French courses are held in January, April, July and October.

Our teaching methods

Our teaching methods are based on a communicative approach of French as a foreign language. All our French courses conform to the standards of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), allowing students to acquire a level of learning recognized on an international level.

Our teaching staff

Our teaching staff is entirely composed of highly qualified native speakers graduated with a Master degree in French as a Foreign Language.

Our public

We provide French courses for children, teenagers and adults, offering general French or courses focused on specific objectives. The group classes welcome a maximum of 18 students. Classes are given on weekdays or weekends, students also have the option to choose private tuition according to their needs.

The Alliance Française de Macao also cooperates with the University of Macau, the CPTTM (Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center), Macau Polytechnic Institute and the Institute for Tourism Studies.

Our "extras"

Methodology

Based a communicative approach, our courses focus on the aquisition of the following skills: expression and comprehension, both written and oral .

Our objective is to provide knowledge of French language and culture in French speaking countries through communication in real situations.

As a student, you will have to be responsible for your learning and participate in several activities designed to promote interaction among students and with the teacher.

Our teaching method is based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. At the most basic level, students will be expected to be able to introduce themselves and talk about their interests, while the more advanced students will complete tasks such as write an application letter or lead a debate...

Our teachers are specialists in the Teaching French as a Foreign Language and will guide and help you to become more independant in your learning. The student plays an active role in the learning process. Personal work in addition to class attendance is necessary to make rapid progress.

Very little English is used, even for complete beginners, yet, after only a few hours, the students quickly master enough elementary French to exchange with their Instructor.

Taxi! is the method used in class. Both text books and exercise books are used during each class and the teacher will regularly ask for homework to be completed for the next class.

Our library is entirely at your disposal to extend your horizons. French books, DVD, Magazines... Taking part in our cultural and social events is also an effective way of improving your knowledge of French.

One midterm test and one final test will determine whether you continue to the next level (An average mark of 10/20 is required to pass)
